Choosing to follow Jesus Christ should not have as little or even less impact on our lives as choosing what outfit to wear or what restaurant to pick for dinner. Calling yourself a Christian ought to have some tangible, real result, real impact on you and those around you.
What is the point of becoming a Christian if no one can tell, if nothing about you or the way you live changes as a result - if there is no difference between who you are and how you live your life and the person who does not have faith in any God or any thing?
Marianne Williamson writes, "When you ask God into your life, you think God is going to come into your house, look around, and see that you just need a new floor or better furniture, and that everything needs just a little cleaning - and so you go along for awhile thinking....its good enough. Besides, no one sees the flaws or cracks. The cracks don't matter right. I don't need to be concerned....they're just cosmetic. But are they?
It's more than just appearances, it is fooling yourself that life is also that fickled. Flaws mean nothing. Cracks can be filled with a bit more putty....but......something is happening to your life's foundation.
You try to fool yourself that the flaws can be covered up....but if they are never fixed......well........ And we even get so calloused we nearly forget....we forget God is here, there, he sees it........he knows what is on the inside. He knows......God is there. Then you look out the window one day and you see that there's a wrecking ball outside. It turns out that God actually thinks your whole foundation is shot and you're going to have to start over from scratch." (revised)
We are called to let our Christianity show. Not with a sense of embarrassment as if you had a piece of food stuck in your teeth or your unmentionables are peaking out. (Side note...interesting that the fad today is to flaunt the "unmentionables"....makes me ponder as I blog this tonight. Maybe we need less unmentionables and more discretion not just in clothing, but the words we use, the places we go, and what others see....when we don't think they see.) God knows your "unmentionables"......do you? Perhaps we'd be better off....working to make sure that our Christianity shows.......
Not as a cover-up; but as a the fabric of our lives!
Let us make sure our Christianity shows; because it is really us, the very fabric of our life's way; not a costume or decor of the season or logo of the latest fad or trend.
Is your Christianity showing? Are you proud to wear the Christian label.....
.....as a Christ-follower, we declare that we are ready to open our lives up to God, to be examined thoroughly by God's probing eyes, to rid our lives of sin, and wrong-doing, injustice, and failure to love God and neighbor, to reach out the least, last and lost in their time of distress, and to bring the power of salvation others who do not know Jesus Christ. Yes, that's right. I am labeled by the Savior. And I pray it is always and ever showing in a way to connect others to Him.
