It's a dark, stormy -- a bit spooky.......
Remember that night? When he appeared....in the middle of that terrible night....and he made it all right?
I think I've read it went something like this....
As night began to settle in, the disciples set sail and Jesus climbed a mountain to pray. The next few hours are a real test of endurance for the disciples. Halfway across the sea, about three miles out, a storm strikes that makes progress impossible. They break their backs pulling over and over at the oars, but the wind is against them, and it's all they can do to stay stationary.
If you were the disciples, you'd start to question your survival. Sure, they had been through storms before, they'd even come close to capsizing in one. But the big difference this time was that Jesus wasn't there to bail them out!
It seemed they were stuck in the middle of the sea and completely cut off from their only source of survival, hope, life. He was not there.....they were on their own, all alone. Lord?
Yet....they didn't get it.....see what was happening.....they just feared. Had they failed to remember he was God....and they were not. No fear. The Savior appears!
They may not have noticed him in the terrible, overwhelming, out-of-control events of the night. But.....He knew what was happening and what needed to happen.
The Bible tells us that He was intently watching them and knew all that was going on:
He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Mark 6:48
Eventually, Jesus appears to them and stills the storm, but not before revealing an important truth:
He sees His people in the storm, even when they can't see Him.
Many times, life seems like a storm. And it's true....many time life is far too much for us to handle. It's all we can do to hang on! To make matters worse, we often can't see how or why faith, God -- could or would allow such storms. And in that moment of darkness of not knowing, we falter, it takes just a second -- then we lose sight of Him.
Be encouraged by this: He sees us even when we don't see Him. He knows exactly what we're dealing with, and just as He did with the disciples, He knows exactly when we need Him to show up and still the storm.
Think About It…
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
tHINK aBOUT tHESE tHINGs.....
