God has given you two eyes, yet the ability to focus on only one thing at a time. In today’s pressured world of multi-tasking and measuring success by the sheer volume of what you do, Jesus would live as a contrarian.
Jesus never hurried. He never worked on multiple fronts. He never lived with a split focus. That’s not to say He lived passively. No, Jesus preached the most wonderful sermon ever, fed large crowds, spent extended time teaching His disciples, and still “left room” in His schedule for one-on-one encounters with individuals.
Yet, even though Jesus would grow tired enough to sleep through a storm, He never seemed to live frazzled or under pressure. Life never made Him feel undone.
What was His secret? Jesus thrived by living off the power and creativity of His Father
I imagine you’re like me in that you want life to count for something. On most days, you want to live intentionally and want your life to make a good showing of things. But more and more, I’m finding that I get bogged down in too many things, even though only a few of them are necessary, really only one.
Living with intent isn’t something I can measure by the volume. To truly live successfully, what I do has to outlive me. It has to stand for something when I’m no longer around to stand for anything.
Jesus thrived by living off the power and creativity of His Father. God was His source. He refused to do anything that the Father didn’t initiate. For you and me, with Jesus inside of us, life should live no differently. We plug into Jesus, who forever remains one with the Father, and the Holy Spirit guides us in the moment.
The Father authors the plan, the Spirit does the leading, and the Son fulfills the work.
In this scenario, nothing gets done that shouldn’t; everything that should, gets done. The pressure is removed.
To receive forever lasting value from the things you do in life begins with a single focus on the Son.
In this moment…right now.
